Why are fuel pressure gauges so much more?

im researching prices on the gauges im getting shortly, and i have come to the conclusion that the full-sweep electric Autometer (3363) is around $185. however the oil pressure gauge im getting (3327) is only $55. is there something in them that makes them that much more expensive? the fuel pressure gauge is full sweep, oil pressure, temp and water temp are 90* sweep. they dont make the other three gauges in full sweep electric, or i would want them, however they would be realllyyy expensive. im not complaining that its so expensive, because im going to have to pay it regardless of how much i complain. im just curious as to the price.

could anyone fill me in on this situation?

If the FP gauge uses fuel pressure at the gauge rather than a sending unit under the hood to drive it, it could be a liability issue. A fine atomized spray from a leaky gauge could ruin a smokers day real quik.

no no no, these are all electric. they all have sending units. i dont want any of that stuff in my cab anyway. plus they are going up above the mirror and it would be extremely hard to route piping up there for four gauges.

True but think of it from the manufacturers point of view even under the hood if an inexperienced wrench turner does a bad install and the truck catches on fire with todays court system they could decimate the company

I'm sure there's some sort of liability release in the packaging for the gauge. But, they don't install any differently than other gauges. The sending unit for my fuel pressure gauge is a very simple 1/8" NPT fitting. I don't know why it's so expensive, but I do remember being shocked at the price when I bought mine.

what i found when i was researching gauges for my truck was that the really expensive gauges you are looking at that are the full sweep gauges, have high tech electric motors in them that are very acurate and that is the reason they are so much money.

i have the autometer C2's and they are all electric, 270 sweep. but, they are on the pricey side. personally, i think they are easier to read than the standard 90 degree sweep gauges though

I think because of liability (as stated before) and most are filled with gel. They are the most accurate of gauges, thus the calibration and manufacturing more expensive.
In our race car the gauge is under the hood or mounted outside the cab on the hood - never in cab regardless of elec/mechanical. Mostly because the gel filled need to be as close to engine/fuel temperature as possible for accuracy.

we only use mechanical.

I've got the Dipricol Optix gauges and they are a 270* sweep and their fuel gauge looks like it is too.

Kris-

My guess is the demand for fuel pressure gauges is way less than the demand for oil pressure gauges. More demand = more supply = lower cost of manufacturing.
