Cloged exaust?

I have a 92 150 302. when I hammer it it seems like it cant get the exaust through. the exaust shakes and the truck kind of sputters. it really seems like it is cloged. Could that be what it is?
Thanks Dan

It is possible that your cat converter is clogged, but it sounds to me like it is missing. I would do a tune up and see what happens after that. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve. I would also, clean the throttle body, but use only air intake or tb cleaner. If you do all of this and it is still doing this, then maybe the IAC is dirty. It might also be the throttle position sensor. Even if the engine light is not on, I would see if there are any codes present.

i tried to run the codes. but i cant find a pace to find out what the numbers mean. I went to replace the plugs and it felt like it was going to break. i had that happen on another truck.. I cant get them out after they break so I figured I would leave that for my mechanic back in NY.

don't hammer on it if that is when it gives you problems.

the problem is when it is at low rpm. When i hammer it It seems smooth. How do you change really old rusted spark plugs? I dont want them to break off when i do it.
Thanks Dan

very carefuly. The threads shouldnt be rusted. The outside prolly is...and if they are replace them. You'll be surpised how much nicer the truck will run. Just use a spark plug socket. If it does break, you can get HeliCoil for spark plugs...

it would be a good idea to replace the wires too...

spray rust buster or wd-40 around all the spark plugs.

get a good plug socket, extension, and a long handled ratchet wrench.

take your time and do not force anything.

even if you break the porcelin you will not break the plug, just do not strip the plug.

that is why you need a good plug socket.

If you post the codes here, someone will probably come along and tell what they mean.

The expensive plugs are not worth it, in fact the motorcraft ones are better. At least from everything I have seen they run better with motorcraft plugs.

I am looking at advanc auto parts on line and they have a msp distributer cap that isnt that expensive that I think fits on the stock distributer. is there andy andvantage to that or just the msd name under the hood? What would be the best wires to go with. I saw so many i was swamped on there. Thanks alot

I have been using the msd cap and rotor kits for a long time now. I have probably bought 4-5 of them over the years. Some may argue, but I think they help. Also, at Autozone you can get an msd TFI coil for about 40 bucks or so. As for plug wires, just run 9 mm Ford Racing wires, as they are fitted for the 5.0 and 5.8. They are about 50 bucks. MSD and Accel etc make good wires, just don't run the cheap 20 dollar wires.
