Well I cannot give you photos of this procedure on one of the newer 04+ trucks, but check out this link (http://www.performanceunlimited.com/projectmpg/). You will see how the OEM intake setup, when thermally wrapped, beat all of the other setups tested. The thing with aftermarket air intakes is that they may flow 10000% more than the OEM, but they filter like crap. The OEM provides more than enough CFM of air to the motor, and filters so much better.
So are the K&N filters that just replace the stock filters any good? I used to race motocross and was never a big fan of the protection that K&N filters provided!

I reccamend taking your truck to a good muffler and custom exhaust place. Muffler tech does good work. It costs less to have them make you a custom exhaust then to even buy a system. Then you would need to pay for instalation. I paid $235.00 for a flowmaster 50 series and a crome exhaust tip all installed. It costs less because all they do to a single exit exhaust is replace the muffler and put on a tip and reuse most of the still new factory tubing.
In what order would you recommend replacing the intake, exhaust, and tuner if I were to do them 1 at a time? I'm mainly concerned with MPG right now!
Thanks,
ERIC
