question about gearing

I have 3.55 gears now in my 01 screw. I want to go to 4.10 at least. My question is dumb, do i have to replace just the rear end gears or gears in the transfer case as well or what? I cant find any gear kits online just front or rear gears separate. Also can i get a limited slip rear end for this truck?

What size tires do you have on your truck now or maybe sometime in the future?

When you replace the gears you replace the gears in the axles only, and if you have a 4wd you have to replace both front and rear. Also yes you can get a LS for your rear axle. Depending on your rear axle will depend on how much labor and parts will cost you.

If you were to get like 4.10s front and rear(plus minor rebuild kits), a Detriot TrueTrac LS for the rear, and labor to put them in... it would cost close to $2000.

i have 285-75-16 (32.8) on now. may go to 35 in the future. I need more low end torque for sure but i also drive on the interstate often so i think that the 4.10 s will be just fine. any thoughts on that?

Personnally I would go with 4.56s in your case depending on how often you really drive on the interstate. Right now with my 4.56s and stock size tires(255/70/16) I run at I beleive like 2700 rpms at 80mph. With your 33s you would probably run a tick over 2500 at 80.

If you did get 4.10s you would be back where you are now if you got 35s.

I'd suggest downloading a good tire calculator that also has gear sizes. You can plug in your current setup and then see what gears it will take with which tires to keep the same effective gear ratio or get a little lower gear if you want. The good calc's will have gear ratio, rpm and speedo comparisons as well as all the tire size comparo's. I'd link one but I odn't have any on this new computer yet, IIRC one was something like miatagarage.com

The tire calculator you are talking about is here..
Tire size calculator
It doesnt have gear ratio option, but it is a good tire size calculator.

To edit my previous post:
At 2700rpms I am going about 75mph, not 80.
