My father Has a 99 dodge with a cummins engine. He bought a 35' 12000lb fifth wheel to travel in the truck has a standard trany. I would like to know what everyone thinks he should have for guages. The engine has a turbo. I think he should have a boost and egt guage but I am not sure about a trany temp guage.
Thread moved to General Diesel.
It would be good to have a transmission temperature guage for that manual >if< it does not have a transmission cooler like our ZF6 has.
Another suggestion is a differential temperature guage. The Cummins makes it's power at a much lower rpm than our PSD's and they gear them higher to make up for it. That translates into much higher pressure being applied to the hypoid gear in the rear axle which makes a lot of heat.
EGT, boooost, and fuel pressure. The 98.5 - 02 models have a weak lift pump. If the fuel pressure gets too low, it'll fry the injector pump. If you do a search for the FASS system, it's a real nice alternative to the stock junk. It means Fuel, Air, Separation System.
