I recently went on a trip to New York from Texas. I had been towing my two motorcycles on a trailer. On the way back coming through Tennessee I noticed a whining noise coming from the rear of the truck. I thought it may have been the trailer tires being that they were new and I had not heard this sound before.
Since then I have taken the trailer off and have driven my truck without the trailer and the noise is still there. I went to the Ford dealer and they informed me that it was probably my differential clutch plates.
you might wanat to talk to a FORD dealer that has a clue what he is talking about. The whinning noise can be a bearing, or the gears them selfs, but not the clutch. The cluth does not have a function when drinving striaght. It slips when you turn a corner. IF you have chatter around a corner it is the clutch.------ Going down the road, when you back off on the throttle does the noise go away? If so, it might be the gears ( non loaded when you back off throttle). If it is a bearing whine, it porbably does it all the time, foot on the throttle or not. Either way, time to look inside. If it started at 90,000 then i would guess bearing.
