OK I understand trucks and MPG dont go well, and I dont expect them to and Im not complaining..But I got a 99 250ld with the 5.4 its a short bed super cab 4wd stock gears stock tires..Im just wondering what I should expect for mileage but as of yet(2 tank fulls) im confused..
Ill get almost 90 miles to the first 1/4 tank, then get only 200 at the end of the tank...I just dunno if somethings wrong or what,I changed the oil last week and the fuel filter so maybe ill get a lil increase?Im gunna do plugs and a K&N intake kit this week see if I can gain a lil more,im probably gunna get an exhaust too,and maybe replace the cats, just incase they are clogged bc the truck does have 100k...
in my 150 5.4 ive noticed the same thing, im like woo this is gona be a good tank, and then it will just drop. i get 280most my tanks. some people clain INSANE mpg i just dont see how they get it. in town the most i have gotten was 14.5 and that was rediculous trying to sqeeze everything out, im talking idling around parking lots. as for highway i dont have a good number becuase on the highway 300 miles ive gotten 15.5 but i was going 95+ the entire time, wich i gueese aint half bad for the hosrt amount of time it took to travel that far!
hmm ok,well I didnt let the last tank go all the way down and I was at 220.So maybe it was close to being right..but right now im at like 115 and im half way between 1/4 and half tank used...
But I wanna put the K&N intake on
Maybe a throttle body space
Magnaflowexhaust with some new cats..and maybe take the injectors out and clean them..
Put new spark plugs in..
In my stock 2002 4.6 I would get 375-400 miles to a tank, depending on how much freeway driving I did or how hard I drove it. I've since lifted it and have 35" tires on it with new gears and I get about 300-320 miles to a tank now. I've installed an intake (waste of money), an exhaust (more money wasted), a throttle body spacer (waste), a tornado (waste). My intent was to get more MPG or to increase the trucks performance without loosing MPG. My conclusion was that I didn't loose performance or mpg but I did loose a lot of money.
The gauges on all of the newer model 97-present trucks are very top heavy. Not sure why, buts thats the way they are. We have a 00 F-150, an 01 F-350 Powerstroke, and an 04 F-250, and all of their gauges are top heavy. In my 00 F-150 , I can usually get about 180 miles on the top half and 140 on the bottom half before the low fuel light comes on.
Ill get almost 90 miles to the first 1/4 tank, then get only 200 at the end of the tank...
That's about right. Usually I get 100 miles on first 1/4 tank after the fillup then 200 miles till nearly empty tank. This usually sums up to approx 15 mpg on mixed hwy/city driving. If I get 320-330, I get excited. But usually I get 300 on nose.
Ive got a '99 F-150 reg cab longbed 4x4 with a 5.4L and I can get 17 mpg on the highway, about 15 mpg in the city. Thats during the summer months, during the winter its closer to 12 mpg city and 15 mpg highway. Winter blended fuel and cold temps really kill the milage.
Ive noticed that my gas gauge is kinda inaccurate too. It can be down near 1/2 tank yet when I fill it the tank only takes about 20 gallons (mine has a 30-gallon tank).
I have a 2000 F150 super-cab with the long bed and the 5.4 and I get between 18 and 20 mpg on the highway. City unknown since I don't drive in the city but maybe twice a year.
LRE- most of the mods you are talking about will only waste your money. intake is a definite no. the factory setup will produce the best MPG. manifold mods and exhaust dont help either. if you want looks or noise o.k., if you want more MPG forget it. if you want performance, talk about a chip.
I have a 97 F150 Scab 4x4 4.6 auto 181000K. I get between 14.5 and 15 mixed driving. before I was getting 10-12. I cleaned my K&N and saw an increase in milage. Currently I am at 153mi on the tank and it is just below 3/4. Last fill up got 250mi out of it. I fill up when gauge shows 1/4. I haven't done a long highway trip to figure highway milage. Bought truck used from a friend and he said it got 116-16.5 while cruising at 70-75mph. I cruise at 65, seems to be the spot where I get the best milage.
