I have a 97 4.2 f150 the a/c works perfect but causes the truck to miss or hesitate ..with a/c off runs fine..friend told me i need to re-flash the computer..rather a dealer needs to..any ideas me and my wallet would appreciate it
the problem is more noticable when driving and especially at constant speed..I did notice the idle doesnt change when I turn a/c on and off. All of the basics have been changed...plugs,filters,etc. If i was to descibe how it feels when driving its almost like the clutch is slipping,,even though its new..p.sp thanks for your response
I had a car where the a/c compressor was going. I don't know if it was a clutch or a bearing??? However, it would kind of lock up and cause the engine / power to surge.
Do you hear any squeels/ rattles???
thanks for the response, its much more pronounced than a compressor cycling..but to answer the question ,no it doesnt make any kind of noise and it stays on while running..the whole truck stutters when it happens like I said before it feels like a strong miss ..I think it might be in the PCM or the IAC but those are my best quesses
Well, on the old cars....when the a/c was turned on a solenoid was used to increase the throttle.
Your probably on the right track with the computer. I'm not too sure what sensors are on there but a bad sensor could be a problem.
Looking in a electrical schematic from a Haynes manual.
There is a "Powertrain Module";a/c clutch cycling pressure switch;a/c pressure cutoff switch....to name a few...
I'm not an expert, but maybe "Google" those parts and see if they would play a part in your problem?
