Jeez, I just realized today how lucky I am with my 06 F-150, because I haven't even been using max AC and mine keeps plenty cool. Today I went for a short trip and put it on max AC for the first time and it froze me out. Course it wasn't very hot here in Vegas today, only 100.

Looks like you and Me are the only 2 Lucky ones to get those "Special" Oversized AC compressors in our 150's there Smoke. I dunno bout you but I think Im gonna buy a lottery ticket tonight
You 2 guys are very lucky so far give them time??????????? Think my next AC will be powered by a vortec, just got my motor trend with the new chebby not a bad looking truck and now ford is going to be dead last in the gas power dept. gm is putting the 6.0L in the half ton for 07!!!!!!!!!!!1
Give Them Time??? I guess you are right. In time the AC will Fail...so will the Brakes...the engine...the fuel pump...the water pump...Hell Do ya think I might have to replace my Tires???...Gee I hope not. Why Dont you go buy your Chevy already and then tell us how great it is.
People, those of you who are quick to slam Ford, Your dealer, and even each other because you AC is not what you think it should be, then take it to an AC mechanic, not a general mechanic that just follows the troubleshooting book. Also understand that you are the exception to the norm. The norm is that the F150 is not only the best SELLING vehicle it is also the best RE-SELLING vehicle. That fact alone demands that these vehicles work as truly expected.
I have an 04 SCREW Lariat 5.4, and am very pleased with the Climate control and AC performance, and I live in S Fla. But seeing other parts of the country setting all time heat records, it may be that these trucks get so hot it takes time to cool down. What I do is put the CC down to 60 degrees, and run in recirculate until the cab cools down, then I adjust accordingly, and take it out of recirculate.
I also have tint on my drivers and passanger side at the same level as the rear and side windows, so this probably helps to some degree also!
I have an 06 XLT, and know one guy with an 05 lincoln and another with a newer 06 FX4. I have been reading this and I feel that my truck AC is not operating properly. I have decided to try a local A/C shop to check it out. If it fixes it, it would be worth $100 or so to fix it. It will take me a little while to get it done, but I'll update everyone.

Please let us know I may do the same thing although I beleive it is a design defect it would be good to know one way or the other???
If the independent shop finds a problem and is able to fix it, try to get ford to pick up the tab. I don't think ford should be able to get away with poor dealer service. But from my own experiences ford service departments seem to be highly trainned at avoiding fixing anything still under warranty.
I was having problems with my new truck. I took it back to the dealer because I was getting 58-70 degrees at the vent, that's with A/C on and on Max! They checked and checked and couldn't find anything wrong.... along with evac'ing and refilling the system 5 times. Finally they thought it may be an orafice or too much oil problem. They balanced out the oil and replaced the orafice with an '07 part. Now I have anywhere from 37-40 degrees of "COLD" air at the vent finally. My '98 Expedition puts out a constant 34 degrees at the vent.... now that is really cold.... Brrrr, I have to turn it down in 100 + degree heat. Good luck with the problems but I think with these new A/C systems it's a delicate balance of gas / oil and parts. I really don't think ford has a master plan to **** people off with faulty air.
You are lucky your dealer would fool with it 5 times mine won't just tells me it is fine and like ford9c says they are masters at not fixing problems on warranty these are just a few reasons why ford stock is $6 a share!!!!
Hi Jeffhead,
I have an 05 and it's been in the shop 5 times for the a/c and they just keep telling me there is nothing wrong with it. I have the same problem that you are explaining...it's cool when I'm driving but as soon as I stop at a red light or sit with the truck in park, it starts blowing hot air. The service dept has checked for leaks and pressure levels but they can't find anything wrong but I just can't believe that it's normal for the a/c to blow hot air whenever I stop or sit at an idle. I live in South Florida and it's 90 degrees plus everyday so it really gets irritating when the a/c doesn't work correctly, especially in a new vehicle. Supposedly, this is a design flaw in the new models because the older model trucks like the 02s have great a/c systems.
They even had the nerve to write on my service receipt "tell customer that the a/c will not cool as well on hotter days". Isn't that the whole point of having a/c in the vehicle-to cool it down when it's hot outside? I'm in the process of sending all of my service receipts and documentation to Ford to see what options are available to me in this situation.
Good luck,
Christie =)
I scoped out the number for my local AC shop on monday. Today I called. They said $40 plus refrigerant. I am trying to go in the AM depending on my work schedule.
I'll let everyone know what it does for me if anything. I dont plan to let them put the dye in the system. I dont think that it is leaking. They wouldnt comment on fords being low on freon, but they were happy to check it out.
I have my coworker dying to know what I find out. I hope to have an update tomorrow.
