Spigg, gotta agree with ya there. My 06 gets down to 40 at the center ducts. Does a good enough job for me. How much colder could one want it? I ride with the windows down to get the hot air out for a bit then crank it it on max ac. Actually my 96 reg cab got down to 38, and then at idle it would start blowing warm air. Once above idle it would start cooling again. So far, no issues with this one!
While I think that some A/C's will never be cold enough for some people, but I think that there is a big problem with the F150 A/C in general.
I have a white truck and at night it couldnt get below low 60's/hi 50's. Outside temp was about 89 and 95% humidity.
I plan to take mine to the dealer to let them look at it. If they cant fix it, I am going to take it to an A/C shop. If that doesnt do it, I may have to drown it to put it out of its misery.
The A/C in my 05 F-150 sucks. It takes forever to get cold air coming out of the vents and when it does it is not satisfactory. I do some air conditioning work on the side and I checked pressures and everything seems ok. My other Fords that I had previous to this one were great, you could hang meat in them. I think they made the air conditioning system for these models in the same room as the stupid tilt steering wheel handle that keeps falling off in my hand.
As a tech a a dealership with a f150 who's ac sucks in Florida, my ac also blows warm at idle, I have tried most eveything, and I have a theory on what is wrong, I plan on trying to come up with a repair, but I noticed the even though the truck is not overheating the cooling fan is not pulling much air across the condensor to disapate the heat. I noticed this check ac pressures and the high side pressure actually went to 500 psi before the ac system shut down, I am going to try mounting 2 10in fans as pushers pushing air directly into the condensor and see what happens. I'll keep you posted, may ba a few weeks before I get around to it though.
My high side pressure doesn't get over 155, the fan speeds up to keep pressure down but air not as cold as what it should be at vents. I'm thinking maybe control module in cab. Gonna try wrapping the heater lines with a rag and pinching them off with vise grips. If it is control module then that should by-pass any hot prestone from entering heater and evap core.
if your high side is only at 155psi with the ac running, it sounds like your low on freon, there was also a service message somewhere to add an additional 4 oz of freon over what the recomendation says.
My AC works ok for about a half hour or so on my 05 F150, and then it starts to blow warm air. Dealer has checked everything, already got the evac and recharge due to low freon (right after I got it last summer), and now they say the condenser is freezing up causing it to stop working properly. They admit this is not normal but once again have no fix for it. They recommended I keep it on max AC at all times to minimize it freezing up. That "blows" if you ask me! I expect a 30k truck to have AC that works longer than a half hour. I do admit it has been a hot summer in Minnesota (can you believe that?) but still that is no excuse. Anybody else been told that condenser freezes up??
Maybe it is the humidity there contributing to the condenser freeze up. Although that is no excuse for Ford to use.
My truck is still new with only 978 miles on the clock. But yesterday I took my truck to work instead of my dailey driver. I usually put around 100 miles driving in a day at work, going from housing tract to housing track. It was hot yesterday, around 109. Humidity averages around 16% this time of the year in Vegas. So far and knock on wood, I have had no problems at all with my AC. In fact it works much better that my Dodge Caravan that is my dailey driver.
You folks are just going to have to realize when ford went to the new model 04 and up AC is not worth a f--- and they will not fix it until they redesign probably in around 08-09 when they will re-engineer it, the compressor is simply not large enough for the new cab volume another better idea!!!!

Well i have an 05 SCAB and the AC works just fine for Me. The Problem many of these people are having are legitimate problems with there AC systems. Not because the Compressor is too small. Yesterday Afternoon I was driving around in 91º Temps with 70% Humidity which roughly translates to the equivelant of 110ºF. Yeah my truck took a bit too cool down. About 5 miles of driving...but I had the windows up within the first 1/2 mile and I was turning the vents away from me within the 5 miles.
I am not one of the Lucky ones here. I am one of the Norm. The People who are unlucky are the ones who are actually posting problems. For every one person that has a problem their are probably over 100 who do not. This thread has been posted for over a week and yet only a few have answered they are having problems with their AC. Those numbers do not equate into a poor design by Ford...They equate into Poor customer service at the dealer level. Especially if they cant fix a ligitimate problems.
Can you drive your truck for 3-5 hours straight in those conditions and not have the AC vary a bit? My truck is fine for a short hop but road trips or running around all day doing errands, forget it!
Should be a one word answer and if it is yes, I am trying a different dealer.
it's been about a week now since the ford dealership replaced the control unit in my 05 screw. yesterday it was about 90 degrees and when i was driving it it was coolig great then all of the sudden hot air for just a few seconds then back to cold. it just seems like there is a short in the system. i then put it on auto and it has work fine eversince, (so far). i also have a 04 old body style work truck with 19000 miles. it will run you out of the cab with the cold air. i like my truck but my next one will have a good ac that i can count on.

My Work Commute is 1-1.5 hrs each way. The Longest Trip I have been on has been 3 hrs in stop and go traffic due to an accident. I Never once had a problem with the AC at all..In fact during that Traffic Jam I actually rolled the window down a bit to warm it up.

Spiggy: I assure you that you are the exception not the norm this web site is just a fraction of ford truck owners, my info on the small compressor comes from 3 different ford dealers whom have worked on 100's of these trucks with poor AC but as I stated ford will not own up to any of these problems
