swapping front ends

Okay I have an 86 bii right now blown motor, I bought a 2.9 to put in it from a guy, and now he doesn't want the truck it came out of, a 90 bii. His is 2wd and mine is 4wd, how much work is it to convert his to 4wd, because his truck is in much better shape body wise then mine, but if it is harder than just putting the motor in mine I probably won't pick his up.

Wasn't the 86 a 2.8? if so swapping in a 2.9 would mean a lot of electrical work. On swapping to 4X4, if the BII is an auto, it should have a dummy T-case already. Just bolt your T-case in the place of it and bolt the front-end in.

yeah mine is a 2.8, the wiring harness and ecu all came with the motor but if i can just remove the dummy tcase and put mine in the newer one then it won't be too much of a head ache at all

The 86 year model I had was a 2.9L as were all 86's, or so I would think
.(84-85=2.8L,86-90=2.9L). The swap is an all bolt up deal. The 4x2 has a dummy t-case so even the rear driveshafts would be the same.

I-beams will unbolt and swap from one to the other. IIRC even the wiring is already there for the 4x4 light. If his is push button 4x4 ou will have to swap harnesses and shift module. The F150's are the same way too, bolt on swaps.
In your profile you show having an 85 BII, your post says 86. If you have an 85 then mechmagcn's comments are accurate. Even the trans will be different but with both complete vehicles you can make it work ..... with work.

if i was you i would pick up the other b2 for a parts vehicle anyway, if you can get it cheap. i have an extra parts vehicle for mine. it was rolled over but all the engine, trans and drive train parts are good. i payed 100 bucks for mine and have pulled about $500 worth of parts off of it so far. saves alot of money if you can get one. as far as 86 b2's go, mine has a 2.9 in it.

sorry mine is an 85 must have slipped when reaching so far for those number keys

I'll probably just pick up the second bronco and put the motor back in it and drive it for a little bit then convert it to 4wd later on as it is in much better shape than mine. And mine smells from getting some stank *** creek water in it and not cleaning it out that night. Thanks for the replies guys, this is the only ford forum i got any replies out of, so much appreciated
