Can I just remove the thin belt that drives the thermatic pump?
The pump seized and prevented the motor from turning over.
I pulled the belt off and the truck runs normal.
Am I doing any damage by running without it?
Desert Pikey, Welcome to FTE, and the 67-72 forum.
I believe that is part of the smog system. Many of them that have been removed, but you should check with your states inspection dept. to see if your truck will be inspected for it.
My Thermactic air pump siezed on my '74 F100 360 2wd.
The motor would not turn over until I removed the belt.
It starts but idles poorly. Can I just ditch the whole pump system?
Don't really want to replace early emissions parts as CA doesn't require a smog test on my truck.
Do I have plug up the air tubes off the manifolds?
Do I have to retune the carb to compensate for taking the pump off.
Would it be easier just to track down a new pump?
The truck aslo has a huge overheating problem, but I don't think thats related.
