The ac compressor seized on my 1994 explorer. I don't have the funds to replace it. Is it possible to run a shorter drive belt away from the compressor and then get the compressor replaced in the spring?
Is the compressor siezed or the pulley on the compressor? If the compressor is siezed just unhook the connector on the compressor. otherwise I would imagine if you measure the belt it could be done. It may not work real well however.
The compressor has been unhooked and the belt is going over the pulley (I think), but over the past few days that area of the compressor is making a tamborean sound. I am scared that the belt will snap if I don't do comething soon.
It sounds like the AC compressor CLUTCH is seized. If that's the case, you can replace just the clutch for about $100. That repair doesn't require evacuating and recharging the system. However, if you don't want to mess with it, you can get a standard serpentine belt for a 4.0 with no AC. It's a direct replacement and will work fine.
