behind all of this bitching is a answer to the original post. Since I am having the exact same code (p0171) come up on my 99 expedition, I am wondering if one of you talented and experienced mechanics could break down the possibilities? I am not interested in getting slammed or in slamming anyone, just need some help trying to fix this code. And once fixed I promise to share it with anyone and everyone whom might need the info.
Thanks and Peace Out!

Thanks for the info myEXisFAT. It was a 90 degree turn in the PCV hose that had cracked and become very brittle. Replaced it with new hose and blam! the light was out the next time the truck was started. I thought I would have to drive it 10 or so miles to get it to clear. Didn't though it cleared wright up.

I have the same codes P101 and P104. The engine light is on. I was wondering if you guys were having problems holding a idle and the truck stalls? My truck wont even hold a idle it will stall out after a minute or two.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Ive just struggled through reading all the post and picking my way through the BS and B@@ching and one thing occured to me during all this. DTC trouble codes P0171 is for Bank 1 and P0174 is for Bank2, right? The MAF or a PVC vacuum leak would certainly cause this issue since you have one vacuum source feeding both banks of the engine. But what is the most likely source if the code is on only on one bank or the other as in the case of my 99EXPY. I'm thinking it could possibly be a clogged fuel injector since it is recieving its pulse width from the computer but is only supplying a partial pulse. This would cause a lean condition but logically it should cause a cylinder misfire if the lean condition were bad enough. I guess an exhaust leak is also possible since that would be relagated to one bank ot the other.
I had the infamous check engine light and associated lean codes for both banks. If you buy electronic contact cleaner, remove the maf off the vehicle, and spray it. A burned out maf element will remain carbon black. When the elements are cleaned they appear gray in color (both should be gray). I have been 2-2 when using this approach with maf (provide no vacuum leaks).
My Sunday afternoon fix for leaky pcv hose. I used a spark plug wire boot from a point style distributor to replace ripped boot on the back of the manifold. Silicon spark plug boots take the heat and chemicals far better than the thin factory boot. And you can get them on Sunday <O
Wow, all the fightin' that was going on, me included, I left for a bit. For future fixers, because I had this problem, it's easier than it sounds. Get up on the motor, or on a stool on the pass. side and find your PCV valve.(it's in the center, top of the valve cover) There are a couple of hoses in there, but follow with your hand and eyes aound the back of the motor, just behind engine by the firewall, still on the pass. side. The cracked hose on mine, and I would assume everyones, is right there. I grabbed it, it sucked my finger up, and by laying on the motor, you can get this done in about 30 seconds.(Find it). Hose was cracked at an unnatural turn that it made. Replace hose, fix problem. Less than an hour.
Read my other post first, unless you were just jamin' me. The hose I replaced, which was hissing and split, is exactly 3" long, and is located about 2/3rds of the way back on the valve cover pass. side, on top of the motor. The reason I ask is because , or say this is because my problem is still there, rough idle, to no idle. I'm guessing there has to be another leak. I'm waiting for my cel to come back on.
