I went 385 series.
Don't forget that 385 series (429/460) includes the semi-hemi Boss 429, (429 SCJ,429 PI)

For Overhaul dependablity the V90* engine gets my nod.

For un-rated perfomance the 300 stands out.

The FE's are "a wolf in sheeps clothing"

The flatheads were pure technical wonders of their time .

I like the 300 I6 engines. Good torque power. It does the job and mileage to boot. I also like the older 302 engines pre 80's they had more power than the newer ones. The new ones give you the milage, but not the torque like the older ones.
390 and 460 are my other choices. So it was hard to just pick one engine, but I do favor the 300. Too bad they got rid of it in 96. I like the inline better than the V6.

yeah, i would much rather the 300 I-6 in my new truck than the 4.2L V6

the 300 had ***** of low end torque and the 4.2 seems to be a dog untill higher rpm... but i guess thats what you expect in this day and age, all about gas mileage. oh well i dont need to tow any houses behind me lol

Please note *:

In post #17 This "For Overhaul dependablity" should have read " For Overall dependability"

How does the gas mileage compare?

At work I sometimes drive around a 02 V10 it has ***** not like a diesel get around 300km to a tank with a trailior. Not good the tank is big but the consumption is bigger.

I do also like the 300 it's the perfect setup for power torque and mileage.
