C4 Brake Drum

C4 Brake Drum
I have stripped my C4 transmission and noticed that the brake drum has been slightly damaged by the low rev brake band. I was wondering if the drum can be skimmed smooth again or if it better to leave it alone? Any comments....
Another question, what would be the best way to clean the valves? Is is safe to let them lay in some petrol?
