Does the drum and hub separate on a 70 model or is the drum one solid unit with the hub? No one can find a brake drum for my truck. They all just list the drum itself without the bearing hub. Not to mention the drums seem smaller than mine. So, they these things come apart or am I up against something different??
Yes the front drums do come off. I had to hammer all my studs in and then basicly break it off. I have a 70 f100 2wd and i was able to get just new front drum and then replace all the studs.
So I just found out. Now, is there a replacement hub available for these trucks? I don't need the drum. I need a new bearing hub. The bearing races are loose inside the hub and spin on their own.
I'd check the bearing numbers to see if someone had put in the wrong one's.
If not then mostly there toast. Cheaper a the junkyard if you can if any..my 2cents

In the days of our trucks they used to swedge wheel bolts to the hub. In order to get the hub and drum seperated you need to find a swedge cutter, cut the swedges from the wheel bolts and then you can seperate the Hub from the Drum. Any shop that has been in business for a period of time can tell you what you need. I have a 69 4X4 and have put new hubs on the front and rear so I am pretty sure they are available. Good Luck.

George, Ford sold free running hubs (Warn or Spicer/Dana) separate on 4X4's.
If the 4X4 did not have free running hubs, Ford only sold the entire hub and drum.
However, at one time front hubs were available aftermarket.
I have a good one for ya. A friend gave me a 66 f-100. He said that i needed to have it towed to my house as the front wheel might fall off. I looked at it, kicked the tire and drove it home. Wanting to check the front hubs, I tried to loosen the lugs and all the studs spun. Also the drum wasn't flush against the hub. Kicked the tire a few more times and the drum and tire fell off the hub. Looks like someone put the wrong studs or drum on. Called all the parts stores and nobody has a replacement hub. Off to the wrecking yard and found the same part # hub on a 64 uni w/ straight axle. Only thing i had to replace was the inner race and bearing. Going to change to front disk brakes soon.
