The arm is connected to the transmission with a 5/16" nc nut.
The rod is connected with an "E" clip.

Once it's hooked to the carb the arm will position it's self where the lever off of the trans is or with in reason. Did you remember to put this arm back on the trans when you worked on it or did the new trans even have this arm/lever?
