adding borla exhaust. will i have any clearance problems? have the factory trailer hitch. is this exhaust a real "do-it-yourself-in-the driveway" system?
oh yeah, it's borla's single exhaust side exit set-up.
Adding a SISO Borla system takes about an hour total from the time you back your truck up onto the ramps, remove the OEM exhaust, install the Borla, wash your hands and put your tool away, and drive back off the ramps. It is a very simple install. No clearance issues on mine. I have an 04 4x4 Super Crew with the tow package.
Spray a bit of wd-40 on the joints of you're existing system, and apply some dish soap on the rubber parts so the hanger brackets slip out easier. I removed the entire exhaust in one piece. Sort had to unscrew it over the axle, but it can be done. Two people would make the job easier, and a lift would be even better. Back you rig up onto the ramps, you'll need the clearance to get the OEM pipe out...unless you cut it.
I ordered mine from driverfx.com, and I think the part number was 140086. At the time, they had the best prices around plus free shipping.
I snooped around this morning and it looks like www.ajusa.com has the best price. $498.97 and you get $30.00 off ($468.97) if you use the promo code 30YRS. They are also claiming free shipping, but I didn't go through the checkout procedure to find out.
I put a Bassani system on without ramps. I cut the old pipe off, had to cut it to get rid of it anyway, and just pull both halves down. I like the Bassani sound better than the Borla, but there is a soundclip of that system on Borla's website.
All in all, it is a very easy job. And try to contain the grin when you first fire it up on the new exhaust, she really wakes up!
We are able to price match and will be willing to look into the offer even at what ajusa has. We offer free shipping for the Borla cat-back exhaust, I recently saw one go out for $471.... so feel free to drop me a message and we'll have a phone chat.
I think the borla system looks stupid with that tubing right behind the differencial where it can get hit and everybody behind you can see its a fake dual exhaust. I don't have anything against the one in two out muffler, but they could have very easily tucked the tubing up higher where you can't see it.
Yea I don't care for the way Borla routed that second pipe. I think that right there will make up my mind to get the siso. Say Gordo, are you going to the Texas meet in Granger? I'd like to hear your exhaust in person if so.
I could be wrong, but I think Borla "tightened" things up a bit after their initial production of the SIDO. I got the early version so you can see if when you're down there. I haven't had to comment on this particular issue in awhile so I don't recall if new owners of the SIDO found the piping to be more hidden. Either way ... doesn't bother me.
Granger? I remember seeing something about that. When is it? Send me the thread link. Thanks.
I personally only hear my Borla when I start it up in the morning (louder than normal after sitting awhile) and when I step on it (highway only).
