between the 2011 and 2012 trucks? I've been looking at a Borla catback exhaust for my truck. Its a 2012 reg cab with a 6.5 bed. They have it listed as fitting a 2011 but not the 2012. I sent Borla an e-mail and they said yes it would fit a 2012 but not my 2012
There are no mechanical differences between the '11's and '12's AS FAR AS PUTTING ON AN EXHAUST SYSTEM. Borla just hasn't updated their fitment data yet. Both Flowmaster and Magnaflow list their late systems as fitting both years. You shouldn't have a problem.
Maybe the difference is their system won't fit the regular cab/short bed combo, in which case it won't fit the '11 truck either. Even so, a little pipe surgery would make it fit anyway. Sometimes you gotta think outside the box. Remember, it's just a plumbing system in steel tubing, no rocket science involved. You can make it happen.

Reason: Adding caps to clarify
Gary I thought that maybe they hadn't updated their system thats why I sent them an e-mail. I don't think the person that answered my e-mail knew either. I would think if it fits an 11 it would fit a 12. I know I can make it fit if I get a big enough hammer. I might end up going with the magnaflow. They say it will fit.
Just for clarification, there are differences albeit very minor. IIRC, the mechanical limited slip got swapped for the electric type that uses the anti-lock braking system to trick the slipping wheel into thinking it has traction when it spins. Also Ford changed the headrest design, in the 2011 you can only adjust the headrests up/down. In 2012 you can tilt and change the angle of the headrest so it's not pushing your head forward. The last change that I know of was that all 2012 trucks got slightly larger rear brakes. I find that odd as I use my 2011 F-150 for work, always have a heavy load in the box and love the braking. This truck brakes better than the 2008 Chevy 3/4 with 6.0L I had before my F-150.
Exactly what was changed on the exhaust to fit the 36 gal tank? They are on opposite sides of the driveshaft. No matter what shape the exhaust would have, it would not interfere with the gas tank, which is entirely in front of the axle and to the left of the drive shaft. And NONE of this relates to the original poster's issue, since he has a Reg Cab Short Bed which is not available with the EB engine. 3.7L and 5.0L are the only engines available in his configuration.
