Russ, those were 930 Turbo's,1979 the last year sold in US that were 50 state legal and 62 HP short of the rest of the world. I would like to see the numbers of a modified 7 liter, wonder if it even comes close to 850 HP and 640 ft/lbs TQ numbers of a little 3.4 litre motor? Lets see, 3.4 litre x 2.0588 equals 7.0 litre, therefore little 3.4 litre motor hp of 850 x 2.0588 equals 1,750.
"Modified" 7 litre 427 should produce 1,750 HP on gasoline. Torque numbers should be in the 1,300 ft/lbs plus range.

If you're so enamoured with them, why do you even bother to post here? I mean, it must REALLY get you down, visiting us "little folks" with our old fasioned, iron, pushrod V8's. And regaling us with your tales of the SCCA championships you've won Oh gosh, I can't wait to here more!!! And what's with the screen name? From what you've posted here, sounds like you should be calling yourself something other than a "Beemer" lover. Shouldn't it be Porche lover? Now go off now and pollish your trophies, we wouldn't want them to rust.

hahahahahahahaha
some porsche's are fast, some mustangs are fast - what's the point?
porsche's handle well but so do some mustangs, what's the point?
and the CI argument is lame. Who cares how much power a 1, 4, 8, 89739847liter engine can make? This sounds just like the ricers when they lose a race to a v8 "but you have 5 liters and I only have 2 liters, you should win" BS.
Bad, thanks for the highest evaluation to "SCCA Championship" a dream come true for any grassroots racer from one like my family and self. With a few first place wins down to DNF to a totaled out wrecked car it was fun in the days where members were equal and the sport affordable. Sorry I wasn't aware of your thin skin about engine power and brands and yes there's a FE in my daily life the last 41 years, tow vehicle. "SCCA Championship" wow that has a nice sound, thanks for the idea.

Did we ever find out the right HP rating for the 390?? LOL. Well Carl offered free ice cream and Russ just tapped the keg. It's friday and the weekend starts now so lets all play nice??? FWIW my 67 390 GT, 68.5 428CJ Stangs and my 67 GT500 were all nothing to brag about in the corners. The 68.5 was the best and had koni's on all 4 corners but all had the *** comin around if ya were a little to hot goin in. No reason to slam each other over this. It is what it is...and to each his own.
Lets step it up for all you can eat and drink at "HOOTER's", the wife will let me go under the "look but don't touch rule". I'll bring the 1919 Model T that I drove today, damn pedals do different things, what a kick in the butt. Felt like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Flubber going down the road.

And I'll throw the 38s on the '75 highboy and we can take turns going thru mudholes. I bet my truck goes farther than that ol 1919 Model T and them 'stangs. Hell, bring on the porschits too!
Then I'll bring my toyota out there and run circles 'round all 3 fords. Hell, it's been rolled and there aint a straight piece of metal on it.(thanks to the ex.) It's could use a couple more dents. Dumb b!tch anyway.....

I was just wondering? You posted those HP & torque figures, but conveniently left out the rpm figures. If the 427 makes 500 horses at 3000 rpms, and the 3.4 does it at 6000 rpms, that really makes the two equal in terms for power production, but the 3.4 has to do it with twice the rpms. So your really comparing apples to oranges there.
It must be that new math down south, a 427 with 500 hp @ 3K, were talking 850 hp at 55-5,600 here and TQ @4,200. Stepping up to the big 3.6 motor in a Turbo R your at 740+ ft/lbs torque at 4,600. No cast iron motor. Power to weight dude no matter how you dream with a heavy cast iron motor.
Russ; we have a heat wave going on in my area, finished drinking 4 this morning. The pains so bad I started drinking again, seems to work against hangovers. Pisses off the 'WAR DEPARTMENT" when I spent money on home brew equipment and have to buy bier.

I went and did a search on your porsche. Best power output I ran across was a twin Turbo 3.6 liter with a tad over 600 hp. "Twin turbo", so in effect your not talking about a 3.6 liter engine any longer, by supercharging it, you've made it a larger displacement engine. Twin Turbo a 427 Ford and get back to me on the results. You cannot compare a naturally aspirated engine to a supercharged engine and expect similar results. Also the reason sanctioning bodies in races like the indy 500 have different rules for the two types of engines. More cubes for N/A motors and less cubes for supercharging. If I recall correctly, I've seen somewhere a 427 Ford that was supercharged and had an output somewhere in the 1,000 hp range. Carcraft has also featured a Chevy 427 that was a crate motor, added a supercharger and with a carb on pump gas that put out in the 900 hp range.
Well hell im drunk and im reading this and it just doesnt even matter anymore......my partner jim beam says WHATEVER!!!! lmfao.!!! Russ is right what does it matter.......
