I know where there is a rear sliding window in a '47 Mercury 1 ton truck. I read in this forum that they are pretty rare. At first I dismissed the 2 piece rear glass but I think I will go back to get it. So how do you remove it from the truck?
The problem will be the rubber gasket that holds the window in the truck.more than likely you will destroy it getting it out.
Usually if the rubber is pliable on the inside of the cab,you peel it away from the cab use silcone or oil /soap detergent to make the rubber slippery then slowly push out on the window to free the gasket from the cab.
I would chk with some aftermarket window gasket makers first to be sure thay can get you a new gasket before even trying to salvage the slider in this truck.
I went back and it was in pretty bad shape. So I just left it. I don't actually have a truck that is would fit. I just found the truck in some trees and the owner said I could take any thing I wanted off it. I figured someone might have wanted it. I was looking for the Mercury tailgate for my '51 but it was gone.
Take that grille! Those grilles are worth a mint, even in rough shape. Take anything you can from that truck that is Mercury specific, it's worth a good amount of money. The rear window, even just components are worth it, other items to look for, original dome light, ash tray, visors, dash emblems, horn button, anything that says Merucry.
As you may know, the '46-'47 Merc trucks are equipped much better than their Ford cousins, and the parts are worth getting if you can turn and resell them.
I did grab the grill.
And the hood chrome but some of it's broken.
I would like to get the Mercury name plate of the dash. I did notice it did have the dual wipers. The cab is slightly crushed since it was pushed into the trees 30 years ago.
