Anybody here listen to radios/ cds at work, with your boss knowing? Does anybody you work with care?
I am running the maintenance shop at a rental company here, and this morning the boss came in and said flat out, no radios. He left, I left the radio playing, and when he came back he told me to get rid of it again. When I asked him why, and that I asked everybody and nobody cared that it was on, he said it always turned into a big issue with people complaining, and next thing you know, they girls in the office have rap playing.
That makes no sense to me at all.
So, has anybody else here dealt with this, restricted listening, that sort of thing?
If I'm at working "at home" not outta town. The radio(s) in the shop and in the offices are usally going pretty good (WOT). You can about hear it all... Rock-rap to country.. gospel.. even a police scanner for some folks.
Some of the girls in my office have a radio on at various times during the day or all day ( I don't really keep up with it). This is ok with me as long as it doesn't conflict with them or a co-worker from doing their job. All of my service trucks have to have an AM - FM (I know it should be some super stereo or something) radio at least. I find a radio too distracting while working in the office (I have one in my office but rarely turn it on).
We have a radio in the back storage room at westlake hardware that plays over the paging system in the enitre store. It plays this awful mix called 'hits blend' where you hear the same lineup of horrible songs every day. Basically, it is the worst song from every top 40 artist that played between 1960 and 1995. It is absolutely disgusting. But... when no one is looking, I sneak back and change it to Modern Country, or Country Classics. Whichever I'm feeling.
I work 3rd shift in a machine shop. some areas in the shop can have radios because it is quiet enough to hear them. my machines are loud, and I have to walk a long distance from machine to machine,so I use a walkman type radio with headphones. Day shift can't listen to radios, though,so all of ours have to be put away before 5 in the morning when day shift starts coming in to work
I'm in construction, and I'm definitely in the minority--I hate having radios around. I run into other subs/contractors blasting trashy music, using power tools, and having to shout over all that trying to communicate. It makes me want to go postal. I get more done if I have some peace and quiet when others are around. If I'm by myself, I won't carry a radio in, but I'm less likely to mind if someone else leaves one there and it's on. And, I'll listen to the radio to/from work.
when i was in the military we listened to the radio while in the office plus a few security posts that had power also had radio's, just keep it at a low volume was the rule and no offensive type songs.
the work i do now, sort of do now i guess, travel around a bunch and work on boilers, no need to drag a radio around with all the other stuff, but no one would care if i did either.
Well, at my -(lawncare technician)- job we listen to the radio when in the truck going from lawn to lawn, and at my other job as a -(Food handling engineer)- there is a radio in the back where all the -(Food handling engineers)- wait for their orders to come up and there is a radio there, and obviously i listen to the radio while i'm driving the food to its destination.
We have two radios win the shop. Our CNC guys listen to Oldies Rock, while the guys on the engine lathes listen to ...well...it's hispanic...so I don't know what the heck they're listening to. No conflict of sounds and the guys get to whistle while they work.
We had a problem with one guy in assembly who kept changing the other guys radio station. Got pretty heated a couple of times. We had to decide between banning the radios or getting rid of the station changer. The music plays on...
Although you dont have a poll answer that fits my situation....Yes we do have a radio at work.
I work in a warehouse (Coca-Cola), and we have a radio above the break room. Its on all day long. Loud enough to hear over the forklifts, but quiet enough so we dont have to yell over it across the warehouse floor.
Its either playing rap (I cant stand that ****!!! ), or Rock. Sometimes country (when all the route-loading guys leave. They are mostly black (not trying to steryotype)).
