Where I work radios are not allowed supposedly due to people liking different styles of music. A walkman is not allowed either because they say it keeps you from hearing the forklifts.

I can't listen to the radio at work, not over the air waves anyway. We're in some old building downtown that has enough shielding to block kryptonite. I'm bulding a secret bomb shelter in the storage room. OOPS...I guess it's not a secret now!

The thing I don't understand is that I -am- the shop. The store manager does deliveries and listens to the radio in the truck all day, the girls in the office play music over the computer but turn it way down when the owner walks in. I usually play some of the better classic rock and heavy metal, nothing like Rammstein, not too loud. I can't use headphones because I need to hear the phone and talk to customers if they have any real questions the girls can't answer.
It gets real boring, even when I'm running around working on stuff, without any music playing.

Ditto! I have to have a radio. I go nuts without some kind of background noise.
I dont understand how people could work in silence all day.

I work at a small european-owned company. Everyone on the shop floor has radios on at reasonable volumes. Everyone up in engineering (where i work) has headphones that they listen to their own music with. My boss has a radio on his desk that is on REALLY low, barely audible but he's never at his desk.

OT- I even saved captain p4's avatar on the computer in case he ever decided, in a fit of insanity, to change it.

Honest to goodness I drive My vehicle out to several different job sites each day, and the boss told me I could not listen to the radio at any time while I was on his time. Yeh right what a dumba$$. When I get a phone call or nextel radio call I just turn MY radio off. Now I am on tele-nav-track where the boss knows where I am all day. I suppose soon he will be able to tell if my radio is on.

There really wasn't an answer to fit me either. I work in a cube all day with people right across the little "wall". So I wear headphones and listen to Internet radio usually KNAC.com or CD's that I have saved on the hard drive. A few people have radios but they are turned down really low and all they play is country.

What would the people that come into Ivan's place say if they heard the line before "Skeet, Skeet, Skeet, Skeet"!!

Personally, I couldn't stand hearing music/radio in an office... too distracting. then again, I'm very picky about what I listen to and the only radio station around here with music/personalities that don't suck is a 100% talk radio station, so I could probably listen to that, or maybe a cd that I burned... however, anyone within earshot would probably complain as I like country, hip-hop, metallica and AC/DC.

I guess I should mention that the only time I can hear a radio at my current job is while driving to a worksite, which is usually anywhere from 2 - 6 hours a day, I listen to the radio, talk radio.

Back when I was a kid delivering parts at a Ford dealer, I'd sneak into the other driver's trucks and change all the stations to French, Chinese, or Indian. Then, I'd turn the heat on full blast in the summer, max AC in the winter, wipers on high, then knock their mirrors out of whack.
