370 to 429?

Hey Guys, a buddy of mine has an 80's model F-700 dump truck that threw a couple of rods under exuberance of a new carburetor. The question is, will a 429 bolt up to his Clark 5spd, and the big flywheel. If not, any ideas on how to make one work, because he already has a good 429?
Thanks for any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Bob

Is it the truck version of the 429 (I.E. 79 or later) if so then yes, if not then the flywheel will have the wrong balance in it.

The 429 Lima (commercial truck) engine utilizes a 429 crankshaft that has a different pilot bearing in the flywheel flange; it is a roller pilot bearing.

The snout of this Lima crank is of a different diameter, and I don't know whether the external crank-driven accessories of the commerical truck engine will align with it...this may or may not be possible.

I may have the rods that you need in order to rebuild the existing 370 shortblock...

Hey Guys, I really do appreciate the info; Paul, I don't know that there would be a need to change out anything on the front balancer, as the PTO is driven off the side of the transmission. What do you want for the 370 rods? If he has to go that way, it may be an opportunity for both of you.
Thanks again, and if anyone else has something to add to this thread, please do. I believe the 429 he has came from an early 80's car and had an auto. trans.

They didn't use teh 429s in cars during the 80s infact it was not used in light duty pickups either it was only used in medium duty trucks in the 80s so if it is a 80 something engine it should be a direct swap (unless of coarse it is actually a 460 and not a 429), but if it is a 60s or 70s engine then no it is not a direct swap for the previous mentioned reasons.

Bobber,

My post above assumes you have a passenger car 429 on hand. For motor ID purposes, the passenger car 429 has a crank snout with a 1-3/8" diameter. The commercial 429 Lima motor has a crank snout with a 1-3/4" diameter. If you have a passenger car 429, then my post above remains true. If you have a commercial 429 Lima, then it ought to be a bolt-in replacement for the 370.

In regards to the 370 rods, funny thing about 370 stuff is that most of it is worthless to everyone, until somebody needs a 370 part...then the parts are suddenly like gold. I really have little use for the rods myself and would be happy to know they would be used to revive a 370, and so I suppose I'd take $65 + shipping for the rods, which is a mere $8 a rod. I won't break up the set.

So if you have a 429 Lima motor, then go drop it in. If you have a 429 passenger car motor, feel free to get in touch with me and I'll sell you the 370 rods. (By the way, my contact info is normally in my sig line, but I can't seem to get my sig line to display...at least not over here. If anyone can tell me how to correct this, I'm all ears).

Paul

Paul the only way to get your sig to display in the post is to pay the 15.95 to become a supporter but they can see it by waving thier mouse over where it says signature on the top right hand part of your post.
