I don't believe you can get the 2.09" intakes and 1.65" exhausts both in a D2 head.. I'd just go for the exhausts if you have to opt for one or the other.. if you've got the cash to put in both valves into those heads, you'll be better off to buy the edelbrocks, IMO... a good valve job and machining just the exhausts with all new valves and springs cost 700 bucks around here... I'd also buck up and buy the 6AL ignition box, cheap insurance for overrevs.. and according to the desktop dyno, that cam doesn't make as much torque or have as flat of a torque curve as the 941 crane...
I thought you could stuff CJ valves in the D2TE heads. Never tried it personally, but I always heard that you could.
Also, that Crane 343801 cam has quite a lot of lift. I think with the stock spring retainers and umbrella stem seals you'll have a problem with the stem seals squishing onto the top of the valve guide.
2.09's and 1.65's will fit. Same spacing for both the CJ and all other std FE heads. The MR, HR and TP heads had wider valve spacing for bigger valves. But for all that work and money, you'll be close to what out of the box Edelbrock aluminum heads run. Skip the MSD stuff and run a Duraspark or points dist. with a Pertronix and you'll have the money for the aluminum heads, combined with what you're spending on your iron heads.

there's room, but you run into cracks and other problems since it cuts down the space between the valves, at least that's what I've been told. the main point i was getting at any way was the cost factor and how close you'd be to aluminums anyway... you'd definitely have to go aftermarket retainers with that much lift, the 941 cuts it pretty close to the stem seals....

You're right about them developing cracks, but this is true for stock heads without seat inserts. In fact the cutting out metal for the seat install eliminates the crack. But most times, the crack between the seats doesn't go deep enough to strike coolant. Back in the 80's I had 7 CJ heads at one time and I think just about all had cracks between the valves.
i've run a few heads with the big exhaust valve with no problems... I'd just hate to spend a bunch of cash on some heads and then have em crack... call me paranoid...
