The 6.0's and duramaxes that you're seeing flow out black smoke when they take off are most likely chipped. They just don't smoke stock,
My uncle has an 05 EX with a 6.0, auto, when we hook his bigass boat to it, and pushes the skinny pedal, that thing smokes more then a brush fire, and its stock....... just my .02

Ok well the brushfire comment was a bit of an exxageration, but i know the truck is stock for one, and secondly when you can see the smoke, at 2 AM, through tinted windows, with only the light of the tail lights (not the brake lights) just the tail lights, and you can see a very large cloud of it following you, thats alot of smoke for stock, but thats what it does
Wouldn't lack of air (clogged filter, boost leaks, ect) also cause extra smoke from stock engines?
Yes it would....but it would have to be really plugged or a big boost leak. Stock 7.3's and 6.0's should not smoke at all if they're running right. Not more than a light haze when they're loaded and running hard.
Even with my DP chip, there's not a ton of smoke once the boost spools, but I still have stock injectors. My BTS oil pumps and Spearco intercooler help to keep the smoke down and burn the fuel for more power. Jody designs chips to make power, not so much smoke. They will still smoke, and especially if you have aftermarket injectors (like Mech).
With just a 80 hp Superchip mine smoked quite a bit under hard acceleration, added the Kwik filter and it cut it about 1/3. Now with the 4" turbo back straight pipe the smoke is all but gone but it is definetely making more power with every little mod.
