Hello everyone, just got my first diesel truck about a week ago. 2001 F-250 with a 7.3L. I absolutley love it so far. I did have one question I was hoping for some feedback on.
My Grand-dad and Dad are big farmers. We have a large 2000 gallon tank at the farm containing farm diesel for the tractors, backhoes, etc. Grand-dad says its illegal to run this in my F-250 because when you buy it - you don't pay the road tax on it.
My question is, regardless of the legality, would it be ok to use this in my powerstroke? And, assuming it is OK and I do, how would one get caught by the law?
Not trying to be a bad citizen or criminal --> just curious.
It works just fine in the 7.3, but I have been told by those in the know that it is death to the 6.0. I am not sure about the swab in the exhaust trick. Have heard about it, but I just replaced my entire exhaust system. Have I ever used dyed? I will never tell!!
Red diesel will run fine in your truck. I don't know what the chances of getting caught where you are, but where I live a lot of the loggers run the red diesel out of their slip tanks in to the pickup tank and every once and a while the DOT sets up check stations along the highway. $1,000 fine for first timers and up to $25,000 after you get caught again depending on the mood of the judge. Some guys think the $1,000 was worth it because they have saved that much over the years in untaxed fuel, but I don't think they will be smiling the next time they get caught.
Take a batch of 100 to 140 gallons and add 1/2 gallon of bleach and mix. Let sit to evap the bleach or heat the fuel. Turns the fuel clear. Have heard guys just dumping 1/2 gallon to aux tank and leaving valve closed to slosh then opening it. I was stupid enouph to think more is better and forgot to close the valve...result was side of road for about 1 hour, and dumping straight bleach out of the fuel water seperator, was clear though.
You could say that, they will either do onsite testing or send it in. Tranny throws them off but not for long. In Ohio they stopped us, up to 100 per gallon fine. Didnt tell the officer that the top tank was full and the bottom was connected, end result is that the tax guy was wearing enouph fuel when he popped that bottom tank to ruin the rest of his day.
