my superduty has the glass headlights with the plastic housing and i just purchased the 2004 headlights but there is no bucket with them, i am curious if the plastic headlights will fit in the glass headlight bucket.
I dont really get your question. Are you wanting to put the plastic headlight housing onto you XL model? If this is the question yes it works, I bought a set of plastic housing on ebay and installed them onto my XL, you just have to remove all of the old parts.
yes that is what i am trying to do, my headlights do not have the metal clips that are needed, do i need to purchase these? and thank you for your reply
The jeweled headlights are an easy swap fron the sealed beams. They actually mount totally different on the header panel, in different holes already there. The common mistake is to buy used headlights without the mounting hardware. I did the swap twice on 2 separate trucks. The one time I obtained everything still mounted on a header panel, the other time the headlights were loose without the mounting hardware, and while walking through a pick a part yard, I found a wrecked superduty and took the mounting hardware off the broken lights.
If you are just missing the metal clips on the back of the adjusters, if you remove the entire header panel, you can substitute small snap rings stacked up for a tight fit.
So the sealed beam work truck header panel is the same as the plastic lens headlight header panels? Curious because I am looking for a 05-07 head panel to do my 02-06 conversion.
On my 05 the plastic headlights mounted in the same location as the XL headlights, I just had to fully gut the header pannel of all the old headlight buckets and clips and such to get room for the swap.
On my 05 the XL headlight trim ring mounted with 2 screws at the top under the hood, and 2 screws between the bumper and blinker. These came screws mount the plastic headlights. I paid something like $110 for my harley style headlights, everyone says its the best money spent to date. I threw some DDM tuning HIDs in there as well, and let me tell you I can see

ok, i did the swap yesterday, very simple. just like you guys said, only thing i was lacking was the metal retainer clips, can you believe the dealer wants 10$ each. as of now i have one on each side until i get around to getting more.
now the reason i swapped these is because the glass lights were so dim, now that i did the swap i am having the same problem, it is like my daytime running lights are my headlights, when i turn the headlight switch they barely get any brighter. in oirder to see anything i have to drive with my highbeams on. any ideas?
