guys.. been away for a while since i bought a 72 bronco
the B2 is making a nice clunking when turning. i can completely avoid it if i don't turn REALLY sharp ... i.e. whipping into a parking space. if it is a slow easy turn..no clunk. feels like it is coming from underneath, so i don't know if it would be steering box etc. i think the shocks are just about shot (squeeking bad when i barely tap the brakes)...so could they be rolling over a bit in the turn? what should i check first? tie rods were done about 200 miles ago. I've replaced them 3 times over the life of the vehicle and at no point did they make the "clunk" so i'm ruling those out.
Hmmmm... ever think it might be time for new front rotors, bearings, seals, pads? And check the rear brakes while you're at it? Another thing to check are the ball joints. Usually, it's the lower ones to go first. Also, you may want to check the U-joints that are at the steering knuckles, if it's a 4WD, although, if it's clunking and you don't have automatic hubs, then your manual ones shouldn't be locked in, unless you're off-road....

front brakes, seals, bearings etc were done a few months ago... back brakes, drums etc have about 500 miles on a midas job. i was thinking u-joints, but someone else didn't think that would cause a clunk when turning. it's an 87 so things are bound to be wore out i don't believe i've ever replaced ball joints.. so maybe they are due. thanks.
No prob. I am getting close to doing the same (replacing U-joints & ball joints) on my '87, if for nothing more than restoration and the ability to actually lubricate said parts (easier) -- since most aftermarket parts come with zerks. Let us know if it fixed the problem
i noticed this morning that i'm getting the shimmy under the floorboard when i take off. I know that's from the u-joints. so i'll start with shocks and ujoints and go from there. I jumped on the bumper last night. when i hopped off, the truck bounced like a pogo stick lets just see if sears honors "lifetime warranty" on these shocks
Niiice. Yeah, might be a good idea to put some new shocks on that thing. Wouldn't surprise me if that was also a contributing factor. I think the only thing Sears might do is ask for a receipt of some sort for the original purchase of the shocks. If that's what keeps you from getting a replacement set for free or even a pro-rated price less than full new price, then that would suck. You may also want to check all of your bolts for the tranny, torque converter, tranny mount, etc etc etc. No telling what all may have gotten loose under that thing.
