my rig is a 1990 f250 with 460 and e40d. now, my tranny is slipping pretty bad and it'd be too costly to rebuild. luckily, my uncle has a c6 he yanked out his early 80's ford pick up (not sure of what model) that he's selling to me for cheeper than dirt. what kind of problems should i expect to run into? thanks in advance
The C6 is shorter I believe. It uses the same yoke as E4. Both were available in 1990, so swapping shouldnt be much trouble. Crossmember is bolted farther forward, I think, and overall length is shorter, since frame necks down a little where crossmember fits. At least it does on an AOD. Pretty certian an AOD and C6 are similar in overall size except output shaft. Your gas milage will suffer a little more. Kickdown linkage will be needed from an EFI setup. Most any 87-91 with C6, including Broncos should have some helpful parts that work. I am getting ready to do a similar swap to an `89. Have an `88 Bronco and donor C6 from an older truck that should cover all pieces to do it.
well, my uncle also has the drive shaft too. maybe i could use that? i hope so! tomoorow the tranny goes in. today, the e4od died. i dont know how but, park became drive, reverse was park, neutral, drive, 2, and 1 all were drive. i'm confused! how the heck could that happen!? well it did! ah oh well. so the c6 and the linkage and everything shouldn't be a problem to hook up? btw, the truck IS EFI
