I'm having an issue with my 83 F-150 i can't exactly put my finger on. It started it today, just randomly acting like the truck was running out of fuel. Problem with that was that it had a fresh 1/2 tank in it. I'm not so sure whether i got ahold of a bad batch of gas from the Texaco i stopped at, my fuel filter is clogging up or the duraspark module is going out.
I've had the DS-II die on me in this way in a previous truck i had, but this time i'm not so sure its it. Is there any way to test it? Or is it just best to replace it since i'm going to be going on a 400 mile trip at the end of next week?
I plan on replacing my fuel filter, and at least taking the top off my carb and looking into the float bowl and other areas to make sure there is no trash in it. What else should i look for?
Could be the egr valve is dirty, not fully seated, so gases are leaking into the intake, which is OK at higher rpms, but at idle it'll make the engine die.
My egr valve has been disconnected since i got the truck last october. So i wouldn't think that would be an issue. I'm hoping that it'll be something easy and quick to replace. Cheap wouldn't hurt either, but with these older rigs sometimes it isnt.
If ya'll think of anything else, i'm open to advice, suggestions, donations and contributions of ole #7 tennessee wiskey.
Well i tried digging into the problem a bit further, and just for grins decided to check the condition of my cap and rotor. When i popped the cap off there was oil all inside the distributor cap, the rotor and all over the pick-up coil and everything else inside it.
What could be causin' this? I'm going to swap my dizzy out with a spare i have and hope that it'll show some improvement from the one thats in there now.
Also i noticed at night, it doesn't do it as pronounced, i think its temp related, but i'm still not sure whether its fuel or spark. Although changing those parts out did help its driveability a LOT
