I'm having a problem with my 77 F150 400. It seems to be starving for fuel. it will start and run all day at idle or even revved up sitting still. When you try to drive it, it will run a mile or less and then die just like it ran out of fuel. I thought something had fallen down into the fuel tank and had bounced around knocking scale and rust loose from the bottom of the tank, but it turns out it was captured in the rubber filler tube.
Will a fuel pump going bad cause the truck to act this way?
I have replaced the fuel filter, and I added an additional clear filter in the line so I could see what was going on. When it was starving for fuel, it looked like air was being pumped into the filter. There was fuel in it, but bubbles were coming out of the line into the filter. Could that mean a problem with the pickup in the tank?
I had a similar issue with an Olds a long time ago . It was the fuel pump . My 78 F100 had a problem about a year ago . On my 78 there is a rubber hose that joins the metal fuel lines towards the rear of the truck . It was cracked and sucking air .
