affordable headers and header mufflers
Hey all,
1980 F-150, 302, c-6, 4x4, 4" suspension lift. There are ancient headers on the truck now, plus a dual exhaust. The pipes are welded on to the headers at the collar. The truck is in the transmission shop right now, getting a rebuilt c-6 swapped out for the shot c-6. The shop owner will have to cut the pipes to be able to swap transmissions.
Additionally, the PO's had the exhaust pipes ran straight out the back, blocking the spare tire carrier. Heres my question:
Can anyone recomend a decent set of headers at a good price? I also would like some opinions on a good set of header mufflers that I can install myself. I don't want to annoy my neighbors or join the TDLEC (too dang loud exhaust club), just basic headers and header mufflers.
Opinions and advice?
Thanks,
Dave S

Well, with a super short exhaust system, it's going to exaggerate the loudness, so don't do glasspacks if you're trying to stay responsibly quiet. Just get any manufacturer's turbo header mufflers.
And it's not really safe to have them dump under the cab - you can easily get gassed. You need to at least clamp on a couple of 90 degree pipes to dump out the sides, or run a few feet of tubing back and dump it in front of the axle. You should be able to easily do all of that yourself.
