Does anyone know of a header that I can bolt on to my 1994 F-150 4x4 w/ the 4.9L inline six? I've looked everywhere and can only find them for the 2wd F-150. Is there even one made for mine?
The EFI manifolds flow really well. A lot of older trucks run EFI manifolds because they flow so well. I think Clifford makes headers, but they're no better than stock. If you're looking to do it for the sound, just give up. A six will never sound like a V8, and it will never have that distinctive rumble.
As andy mentioned, the EFI exhaust manifolds flow fairly well, and are certainly an upgrade relative to the single outlet log manifold found on older engines. With the manifolds you have, a short-tube header would not be an upgrade, just a waste of time. A full-length header, however, has the potential to give you noticable gains in power, especially at the low-end.
The downside is it will require you to get rid of a majority of your emissions systems (cat, AIR, EGR) and still keep your EFI truck running, or take a great deal of fabrication to hook everything up.
If you're up to that type of light fabrication, making an availible header fit your 4x4 shouldn't be that hard. In fact, I think it'll actually fit your chassis... is the driveshaft for the front on the driver's side? (mostly just a 2wd man, myself)
And, lest you think I'm making all this up, I've actually run a single outlet iron manifold, dual outlet EFI manifolds, and long-tube headers on the same engine, in the same truck.
putting headers on the EFI 300 is no big deal. All you have to do is have a custom Y pipe made (or make one) that has a bung for your o2 sensor, and then weld the tube for the backpressure sensor on the Y-pipe.
I already have it all figured out, because I am doing it at the end of this month. Of course, once I put my new 300 in my truck, I will have to weld over the 2 holes in the Y pipe, but thats no big deal either.
I recomend Hedman Headers from SummitRacing.com For $150 (about $160 after shipping), you can't beat the price, or the quality.

Did you come up with this setup, or have you seen it used effectively before? Also, since those headers are for a 2wd, are you sure they won't interfere with anything such as the front driveshaft, etc. Either way, I would like to see some pictures of the parts and installation if possible. Let me know your progress and keep me updated!
