Just make sure the ELC you use is good with aluminum....everything else the coolant touches is cast iron or rubber, so as long as it's ok for the aluminum parts it's not going to be an issue.
I just did a google search on ELC trying to get info on it and when browsing through found several places that mentioned it should not be used in the powerstroke, even by people that advocated using it. Yes International is now using it in the T444E, but I am thinking the difference is not the engine, but rather things like heater core materials etc. Also I found that the red ELC doesn't like ANY air in the system as appearently it turns into an acid that can eat the block. I am not saying that it can't be used just stating there was enough info about it bieng used in the powerstroke that I don't want to chance it in mine.
Can you tell me what search terms you were using on google? I just changed to a diesel ELC last month after 60,000 on the gold and a lot of research, I never found anything that indicated that there have ever been actual problems caused by the diesel ELC, in fact a lot of posts convinced me that they offer much better protection than the gold. If there is some bad side effects to my new coolant I would really like to know about it.
clux, the main search parameter I used was "ELC powerstroke" that came up with a bunch of discussions etc, some were for it some were against it, including (and now I can't find it) one that states navistar rescinded that part about using it in engines built after 99 that is in the link aklim posted. Like I said though, it just left me with enough questions about doing it that I won't put it in mine. I hope it never causes a problem for anyone that does it, I just don't want to chance it expecially when I know that either staying with the green, and adding the sca's or switching to the gold is acceptable and doesn't have any problems with it, I mean if there was no alternative for the green except the red I might consider it, but there is a proven alternative. JMHO.
BTW, I have been stuck in the house for 3 days so had lots of time to read lots of sites, which is why I am not posting links, just too many total that I have gone through the past couple of days, and can't find all the really good stuff without going back through them again.

I literally spent month researching my coolant change last month and arrived at the conclusion that the best coolant was a diesel ELC (Old World Industries Final Charge is what I ended up using). I read enough bad about the gold being a light duty diesel coolant (including that John Deere reccomends adding and monitoring SCA's in it, and that Ford only put it in their diesels because they wanted a single universal coolant for all their products) that I concluded that diesel ELC coolant was the only thing I would use from now on. So now I've had all three types of coolants in my engine. I guess it's a matter of who you choose to beliveve. I am completely comfortable with my decision.
