coolant change

Hey I want to change my coolant. Can you tell me what kind and where to get it (Napa)? And also the additive and how much to use? Please be specific. Thanks

I was under the impression that we need an additive for cavitation

Fleetcharge (Available at NAPA) already has the additive, or you can get low silicate antifreeze and add sca's to them. the sca bottle will tell you how much. Get 3 gallons coolant and 3 gal distilled water. I found it cheaper to get the NAPA brand in the blue jug and the additive.

So the easy way is to get the fleet and not worry about it. 50-50 fleet and distilled water? And nothing else. Sorry to be repetitive but just want to do it right

If you buy 50/50 it already has the water, they should have it in the concentrate.
If you buy regular antifreeze they should have test strips to test it and see how much additive you need, I have heard that too much is just as bad an not enough. I really can't say one way or another. I do know I had my truck in a shop once and when I picked it up, they had drained and diluted the antifreeze. They said I had too much antifreeze in it,so they put it back to -34, I was headed north and had it down to-60 for a reason. lol

Starmilt. Do you recommend getting the fleet with no additive? Does Napa carry the test strips too?

I flushed my truck as well as i could with a garden hose, then let it drain. Then i put in 4 gal of FleetCharge and topped it off with water.

If you flush it out with water then you need to be sure and put one half the system capacity of straight coolant in. This will put you at a 50/50 mix when you're done.

NAPA should have test strips, and FleetCharge already has SCAs in it.

I always buy straight antifreeze myself, I just could never see paying antifreeze price for 50/50, but that is just me. I have never bought additive at napa, I usually get mine at the international or kenworth dealers, and the test strips come with the additive. I don't know if they do at napa, I believe it is called napacool, and it should come with it or they should at least have it.

4 gals Fleetcharge +4 gals distilled water from wallies. Check coolant every other oil change with test strips. I'm hoping that it will just be a straight coolant change every two years without all that messing with SCA additives

I run cat ELC concentrate coolant, it already has all the sca in it. I figure if it is good enough for cat industrial engines it is good enough for my truck. Also it is silicant free.. In my area it is cheaper than fleetguard.

If you take out the 2 plugs in your block you can get all the water out of it and you will get a better flush.

Oh and for test strips buy the strips at walmart that you test your pool water with, they are the same thing but a whole lot cheaper.
