After I replace my ranger engine, I would like to lift my 96 Bronco. 5.8 with auto tranny.
I would like to use a 6 in lift with 36x15.5x15 Fun country tires. I may consider using fender cut outs if there are clearance problems.
I will put in traction diffs- Detroit in the rear and a tru trac in the front. I just need input from everyone about gear ratio. (what are you guys running). I prefer acceleration over mileage, and torque for off road situations. It will not be a daily driver, I will probably drive it ounce a month after I fix my Ranger.
Not trying to talk you out of anything, but those fun countrys won't do too too much off road.
Like WheelMA1 said, 4.56 gears would bring you back to about the same acceleration and power as 3.54 and 30s.
For stricly off road, I'd also suggest staying away from rocks unless you upgrade axles, and 4.88 would give you more power and it'd still be fine to drive it 55MPH if you need to.

I'll second MBB's comment about the axles as well. 36's are at the top end of the maximum unsprung weight rating for the 1/2ton axles under your Bronco. Adding any harsh punishment on top of the strain of swinging those meats around is gonna be asking for broken parts.
I have a 96 5.0 with a BDS 6 in lift and 35 mikey thomson mud swampers with a 4.88. Yeh that is the way to go for off-roading. On the highway I could only go 65 with the rpms pretty much at 4500. Better going 55 at like 3200 rpm. I like my set up as it is primarally for off road but will be going to the beach 2 hours away. I am eventually going to put a Gear-venders overdrive on it for highway use as well. Good luck
