i have a 78 f100 axle code o2j w/ a dana rear.can anyone tell me what gear ratio it is? i am running a 95 5.0 w/aode and overdrive is useless.my guess it is between 2:79 and 3:00 because it is like your taking off in 2nd gear.if anyone is using this setup what gears are you using............................thanks

No 02 code in 78.

The J stands for power steering.

Better check closer.

The 02 codes applies to 76's & 77's and it is a 3.00:1

a 02 code is also a 9" not a dana.

Btw, you can verify it here on my page.

The Truck is a late 78.... July 1978 actually

My thought : Possible mis-stamping of the axle code.

code 22 is a dana 61 - 3.07 Ratio ....5300 lb axle

Does that ratio seem correct ?

F100 axles. they could come either way
D44- differential cover that can be unbolted from the rear to expose gears. 2900lb capacity 2.75 and 3.00 were the only ratios available and no option for limited slip
9"- no differential cover. hoghead has to be pulled to inspect gears. Center section very round and about basketball size. 3750lb capacity 3.00 3.25 ratios for F100 limited slip an option and more aftermarket parts than you can shake a stick at. these axles are as easy to find as 350 chevy parts.
That is the quickest way to visually check the axle in the truck.
