99 Explorer Engine Noise

99 Explorer Engine Noise
2 days ago, my explorer (99XLT, SOHC, 2WD, 71500mi) started running very rough (noisy, sputtering, no pinging though) at low to mid speeds (0-40mph) in the morning. Start up was quick and normal. When driving in the afternoon/evening everything was fine - no noises.
Is this a fuel line problem that can be cleared up with a fuel treatment/additive or is it back to the shop? (I've already had several problems this year with the timing chain and serp. belt)
