As much as I like engines, going fast and all that, I'll take a sailboat most any day. Unless I'm behind the wheel of the motor boat I usually have a much better time on a sailboat.
It's very relaxing to be near silently moving across the lake. I can move around talk to people and do other things without having to stop, I also enjoy the skill it takes to operate. We usually try to go during the week to have a better chance at some peace and quiet.
I have a Bayliner 18' with the 135 hp mercury I/O. Also have a Kawasaki 900 zxi jet ski. I still think it's better to have a friend with a boat than to have your own though. Cleaning, maintnence, repair, money and cleaning drives you crazy after a while. But to me its worth it when I'm out cruising around and enjoying the water.
I checked OTHER, live in S.F. bay and a Kayak fills my need for exercise, solitude, peace and quiet from the rat race called life. Gliding over kelp beds along Cannery Row Monterey to Carmel. Any place were power boats and jet skis are banned after having a jet ski jump over my kayak. Yup we have sheriff's on jet skis patrolling the bay water after 9-11, got that drunken idiot arrested. I went thru power in C mono back in the 70's, recovered a sunk Ranger 29 sailboat and sailed it for 12 years. Free dock a block from the house, without that it's a waste of money.
For me, a Fish and Ski is the most versatile...have had a couple of those when I used to fish Bass tournements. But, I also had a 30' pontoon boat with a hard top platform, galley etc...we probably enjoyed that one the most overall. Wife wants another one...just smaller.
My son-in-law has a Mamboo...or Malibu...or whatever you call it... go fast boat. Expensive and not much good for anything but skiing and looking cooooool. Now that he has an 11 month old son, he doesn't like making that payment every month either.
6L PWR;
That was a Ward Craft hull with the deck cut down 1 1/4".
I still have a spare OPS .60 with nitro pipe NIB as well a unused Ward Craft as they shipped them, paid $50 for the hull.
I have one of Art Hammond's .21 Moni Kai's. He rear carbed a .21 K & B that kicked butt in the .40 class, as well Jim Wittlash, both district 9 champs for many years years ago.
Geez, I can hardly remember mine. I know it was a Scarab KV by Prather. I can't remeber whose engine it was. It's still here at the Lake of the Ozarks. Somewhere around the 24 mile marker and about 150-170 feet down. Was a beautiful jump off a wake until it slammed into the following wake. From what I can remember, it came apart. Sank quick! Never bought another.
No boat. I can't swim, and have no desire to go play on a lake. Besides, I have my own money pit - it's called a 37 food diesel pusher motorhome. So, I already have all of the joys of owning a boat, without the risks of drowning.
A lot of the big boats started to run O & R pull start or weed eater engines. Price of model fuel is crazy these days. Check your knowledge, remember the Gannet motor built from 68-72 as well Morton M-5's? Sold the Gannet but have a M-5.
Above post "can't swim", my son turned 15 two months ago and passed his life guard test, has a summer job waiting as a life guard. Your missing out 3/4's of the world with scuba, free diving and sea kayaking.

In my case, no I'm not. You're talking to the one person who WILL sink with a life vest on - seriously.
My best friend thought I was joking untill I put one on, and immediately proceeded to plummet to the bottom of the apartment's swimming pool with it. So, in my case, I'm simply playing with my life to get into the water.
