Steering Column Swap

Will a steering column from a 1977 F150 auto fit a 1968 F100 Ranger auto? If any mods are required, how hard is it? Thanks

Steering Column Swap

I have heard that it is a direct bolt in swap, as long as both are the same type truck (2wd or 4wd) as the length of the column are different between the 2wd & 4wd, I'm not sure about the turn signal switches though, as to if they are a direct unplug & plug in type thing.

Earl it will fit. Your wiring will be different but isn't to hard to figure out. I have a 76 in my 66.

Steering Column Swap

Also, make sure you don't try swapping a power steering column for a non-power steering column. The portion in the engine compartment isn't the same length.

Ken I beleive you can swap the column shafts between the two columns. The floor to wheel is the same length with either.

Steering Column Swap

What is the advantage of swapping the columns? Can you get tilt on the later columns? Can you still use 67-69 steering wheels with a late 70s column? The column in my 69 2wd with ps seems to work just fine, and I like the pre-70 wheels better, but I'd love to have tilt.
