I assume you are talking about a 4wd front-end?? There were several variations on the theme from the 60's and 70's. It would be hard to know what year your front-end came from without getting the ID tag info from the axle. Since you know you have the bolt-in type, why not explain that to your part person and have them order by part instead of application. Just a thought.
Helpmeplease, are you buying a 4x4? My 1971 F-100 4x4 frontend does not have ball joint knuckles that support and allow the front end to rotate.Mine has trunnion bearings, there are 4 sets of them in the front end,one upper and one lower each side. These 4 bearings are a smaller version of what you would have in a 2 wheel drive front axle. Each bearing has a race that needs to be pressed out and the new race pressed back in.These older setups are tricky to setup but with a few tricks can be made to produce years of trouble free service. Some of these setups were closed knuckle and some were open knuckled, mine is open knuckled as I can see the axle u-joint.Let me know if you have any questions.
