What really sucks is that it doesn't have to be this way. The soft drinks should really all be sweetened with sucrose in the first place. It is entirely up to the bottler which sweetener they use, and luckily a few still choose to use the good stuff. A perfect alignment of corn subsidies and sugar quotas make HFCS the choice of most soft drink bottlers. US cane sugar is about twice as high as it is on the world market. HFCS is actually higher than cane sugar on the world market, but cheaper than sugar in the US. Corn that is heavily subsidized is processed by a few big companies. These same companies are the biggest financiers of lobbyist for sugar quotas.
So i go looking for this stuff, and i found it. Its almost 8 bucks!!! ANyway, i figure what the hell, its only once. Then on the way home, the wife needs to stop at wal mart, so i take a look. low and behold, WAL MART has this stuff...3.67 a pack.
This is the only one i have found that has it though.
So keith, if anyone care, maybe you can tell them the Wal-mart in sugar land has it.
Sweet! Literally. What kind of dumb luck is that? How much did you buy at the 8 dollar price? Better question, how much did you buy at $3.67? Someone on Bevnet said that DPSUBG had an arrangement to distribute it in their area, but I am thinking Houston may actually not be part of that territory. Obviously whoever's territory you are in, they are putting it out there if a Walmart has it. Then again, someone claimed to have found Dublin DP in a Walmart in Staunton Va some years ago, but has not seen it since.
All of it is in bottles, at least the stuff i got. If you find it, it usually is in a bottle, and the bottle has an imperial sugar logo on it. The carton is a regular DP carton, with ingredients listed as corn syrup, but if you pull the bottle out and check it, its listed as imperial pure cane sugar, from the temple, tx bottler.
At the 8 dollar price, i only got one, feeling pretty bummed about having to milk 6 bottles of DP for as long as possible. At 3.67, i got three more, one for my father in law, and two more for me.
Thanks to all who have helped me locate this stuff. The wife says it tastes exactly the same, but i disagree. She actually said it WASNT as sweet...wierd. I like it.
I think you wife my be confusing sweet with heavy. HFCS has a heavy lingering sweetness. Cane sugar is lighter and cleaner tasting. Do you see the code on the bottle? If you do, post it so I can see how old it is. Should be up top on the neck.

I am now down to about 12 bottles. It lasted just about 7 months. Three cases of that was given to friends, the rest was split between me and my Dad. I bought enough to last me through May, and figured I would be back up that way by June to get some more. Gas prices have delayed my expected trip to Virginia, and my air conditioning going out at the house pretty much seals the deal for any pilgrimage to West Jefferson this year.
I know in the eastern part of texas you can get it pretty easy. We just call it Imperial cane sugar dp. It's hard to find large quntities of it around there. Usually just 6 packs of it.
Thanks for the tip on Wal-Mart, found it at the one at Hwy 6 & 90. Picked up the last 4 six packs they had on the shelf. The lady at the check out counter said "Man, that stuff is expensive in the little bottles, you know you can get a 12 pack of 12 oz. cans for the same price."
Man, that's messed up that they can't ship bottles to Ca . Well, I don't think I'd mess with buying the cans. I was looking at Beverages direct, they sell West Jefferson, but they are slap out of everything.
Try sodaking. They sell Dublin DP for a bit more money, but you may be in one of their local areas.
Is the Wal-Mart that has it the one on Hwy 6 & 90 or 59 & Kirkwood?
Thanks
YES!
Its the one at Hwy 90/Hwy 6!! Go stock up!
You live out this way?
Ooops....didnt see your follow up post. I should have gotten more, but it is a tad more expensive, and i didnt want to go overboard. Im glad to see the last 4 went to someone who knew what it was. That lady is right, it is cheaper to buy the cans, but its not the same.
