Dublin Dr. Pepper...
On a side note, if you are in western NC you can also get some cane sugar sweetened DP from Dr Pepper West Jefferson. They distribute in a small area of the state, and you can pick up cases of longneck glass right from the warehouse. And West Jefferson has many others too. RC, Nehi, Sunkist, Crush, 7Up, SunDrop, A&W and several more. They are also only one of a couple of non-Pepsi bottlers to bottle Mountain Dew. And I believe the only one to do it with cane sugar. I hope to make it back up there pretty soon as my supply has about run dry. If you are in that general area of the country and have seen longnecks with metal crown caps, look for the West Jefferson name on it. It will be sweetened with cane sugar. Some other bottlers trade with them on some of their products, so it is not out of the question to find some of their products out of their territory
Dr Pepper is noticeably different tasting than it's HFCS counterpart. The best way I can describe it is, it's sweeter, but less heavy and has a more pleasant aftertaste. The truth of it is Dr Pepper holds up quite well sweetened with HFCS. Don't get me wrong, cane sugar-sweetened DP is much better, but the standard issue is ok. I can't say the same for most soft drinks. Most have been completely screwed up by HFCS. Not only do they taste completely different, they often taste like crap. And to me, one of them is Coca-Cola.
I really don't care for Coke. I drank some of it when I was a kid, but I would go years without ever drinking one once I turned 15 or so. One day I decided to go into a Mexican store just to see if they had any Coca-Cola from Mexico. As luck would have it, this store had 16oz glass returnable right in the cooler. Cane sugar baby! The taste blew me away. It is so completely different than a regular Coke, that I can't even describe it. If you get a chance see if you can find some. That store I mentioned earlier now has 12oz returnables, but they always are from Mexico. Every other Mexican store I have been in is hit and miss. Sometimes the have Mexican product, but a lot of time they have Coca-Cola from other central and south American countries. So far I have found it from about 4 different countries and none of them are as good, and most are probably not cane sugar. So look for "Hecho en Mexico." If you can find a Mexican Pepsi, there is another winner. I have not found one of those in a long time though.
And since we are on the subject of Coke and I can't shut up about it
You can actually find Coke sweetened with sugar that is made right here in the US. Once a year, around mid-March, Coca-Cola bottles two-liters for several markets with large Jewish populations that are Kosher for Passover. It is easy to spot with it's yellow cap. Once you see that, look at the ingredients. You will see "sucrose" (sugar) and abscent are the words "and/or HFCS." This too is a good Coke. Not as sweet as Mexican Coke, but with, actually, less aftertaste. Cane sugar could be listed as sucrose, but sucrose does not necessarily mean cane sugar. It may well be refined beet sugar or cane sugar/beet sugar. You might have a 8-week window to find it in some stores. I scored a few of these locally and figured just maybe it was all in my head. After drinking several glasses over rinsed ice in the course of a week or so, I went over to a friends house. His wife is a Coca-Cola fiend, so I popped open a chilled regular Coke and poured it over rinsed ice. It was not all in my head. I had to dump it, it tasted so bad to me.You'd probably think after reading this I was hopped up on sugar 24/7. I usually drink about one 12oz soft drink a day. So I have to make it a good one. Red Rose iced tea with a touch of Sweetn'low (or nothing) is my drink of choice. I probably go through a half gallon on the average day. I don't like sugar in my tea...go figure

I also try to eat cane sugar products. Tastes better and is easier on your body.
No responses as of yet though. tdister, I had read that or another article like it before. The labels that are affixed once they enter the states do usually say "and/or." I have been waiting for a day when I pick up one that tastes lousy.

I do prefer the old time sodas.
I remember when most all sodas were made with sugars and not hfcs.
I do like my Reed's X-tra Ginger Beer, though.

However, nothing beats "bar soda", (beer).
