'91 F150 code 512
I have a '91 F150 with a 5 liter. It is running very rough when first started, will even die sometimes. I pulled up the codes and got a 512 code. I have done some checking and have found that means keep alive memory test failed. When the truck is running rough, the service engine light comes on, and it bellows out some black smoke, then all of a sudden, engine light goes off, smoking quits, and runs normal. Next time I start it, this all starts over. Acts like it forgets how to run when ignition is off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
