I have a 92 F150 4x4. when I go in reverse the shifter and tranny rolls towards the drivers side. the shifter moved so far that it ripped the boot off and broke the plastic part on the floor. right after this happened the engine light also came on. this just happening while the truck was in 4 low in reverse without a load. but also does it in 2wd. anyone ever had this happen? Im thinking that the passengers side motor mount is broken.
Open the hood and very gently apply gas while holding the brake. You will see the engine lift on the side thats broke. Try it in forward and reverse. It will be obvious. BE VERY Careful! I watched a guy about roll his motor right out of the car cause he give it a good rev. The engine hopped up out of the car a good 8-10". He was missing the safety hold down most engines have.

I was going to suggest that, but again, I'm no expert. But that's exactly how I found a broken motor mount on my first car. Open the hood & put it in gear - it WILL be obvious. I also had a pretty serious exhaust leak because of it - snapped the header bolts, if I remember correctly.
