i've get a 02 f-350 dually 4x4 with 73,000 mile on it, the tire have about 20,000 on them. the front tires are scalloped bad. i think its the ball joints, am i correct in thinking this. also i can hear a poping sound that i think is comeing form the steering gear box. i've heard that the 99-02's had steering box problems. could this be part of my tire problem or is it 2 seperate problems.
Do you hear a Popping or Cracking noise when you turn the wheel sitting still lock to lock if so this could be ball joints.
Are both tires cupping ? it could be worn out shocks, worn shocks on these Heavy Duty trucks will let the tires hop offf the ground causing cupping My brother inlaw had this problem with his 1 ton.
Lets use know what you come up with Oh Yea Buy some good shocks if is the shocks not cheep ones you get what you pay for.
Good Luck
Do you change to summer air in you'r Tires Ha Ha.

Definitly shocks. My 04 did the same thing. Buy some new shocks then get some new tires. Those tires are ruined. Stay away from Goodyear AT's, I've had nothing but trouble with them.
I swapped my shocks with Edelbrocks. The truck still was riding rough because the tires were chopped so bad. I tried getting the tires balanced, rotated and that didn't help. I bought new BF Goodrich AT's and the truck is riding like it was brand new. You probably need new bushings to solve that front end popping problem.
If your also doing alot of towing, you could be throwing the alignment spec's off in the front.
The weight will cause the caster /camber to be off .When you get new tires and new shocks make sure you get a good alignment shop to adjust for tougne weight or pin weight if a 5ver.You have to use a truck shop to align.make sure you tell them you tow alot.
All this combined with bad shocks/tire pressure/ball joints and wheel bearings will cause tires to wear
