Hey guys! I'm new here and this is a pretty cool site. I have a 79' ford shortbed f-150 4wd I am restoring and it has something on it that I've never seen and have no clue what it is, I was hoping one of you might know. Aight, it is just a chunk of cast iron about 3-4" wide and maybe 12-14" long. It has two bolts going through connecting it to the back of the cab just a little below the top of the back of the seat level. The cab has factory clips in it for the bolts and the piece has a ford part number, I can post it if I need to. I first saw it and thought it was some aftermaket piece but it's not, its factory!!! What have I got u guys? If anyone can tell me please let me know Thanks guys, Jamie.

pictures and the part number would help alot. Are there any wires running to it? or is it just a big piece of cast iron bolted to the inside of the cab? Youve got me stumped
ive seen dozens of thes trucks in junkyards, and on the road, my father and myself have owned a total of 6, and i have never seen or heard of this item. but i guess the saying "you learn something new every day" is true!
Hey thanks you guys, its really awesome that all of u posted like u did. Yesterday I ask a friend of mine that worked for a ford dealer all through the 70's and yes it is a dampner to help sturd the cab. They only put them on trucks that had a vibration issue on the back of the cab. Any truck that didnt, didnt get one. He said he hadnt seen one in years, I have never seen one and have worked on a blue-million of these trucks, on top of my dads had a few and numerous friends of mine have had a bunch and i've ask probably 30 people who age from 50-75 yrs. and had never seen one so I go to believe its kind of rare. But thanks for the help you guys, especially that schematic, thats awesome man, I appreciate you guys, take it easy.
