My 7.3 has just a shade under 50K miles. I would like to consider some kind of chip/tuner in the near future, but I wonder if such an upgrade would void the factory (100,000 mile?) warranty?
I tend to only drive 15-20K per year, and I'd hope I woul not have to wait 2 or 3 more years to start doing stuff to the truck.........
Technicaly the magnusson-moss act is supposed to protect you from that, as it is the dealers responsibility to prove that the aftermarket component caused the malfunction. But in the real world, if the dealer finds evidence of a chip or tuner they will blame it and void the warranty out of hand.
YES - it sure will!! Heck - Ford voided my warranty for my stacks - at least that's the reason they gave me!
Ford will deny/void warranty's for ANY and ALL reasons! It all depends on the dealer - as some are more "mod" friendly than others.... but they seemed to really start cracking down on warranty stuff after the 6.0 problems began.....

No it isn't. This is a misuse of the act. The M-M act was designed to prevent voiding a warranty when replacement parts that meet the manufacturer's specifications are used. It was not designed to allow the owner to modify the vehicle and have the manufacturer still warranty it.
I don't see the problem. If I cared about warranty, I would have jody get me a used processor and run that with say a 6 position chip or whatever. When I needed warranty work I would switch back to my old processor.
Also it helps to be on good terms with the tech involved and maybe slip him a few bucks to look aside.
